“Birther Queen” Orly Taitz has endorsed GOP candidates Sharron Angle and Joe Heck. But only Heck has rejected the controversial figure’s political help, saying he doesn’t even know who she is.
Heck campaign officials were quick to say Heck isn’t a Birther, like Taitz, who will campaign here this month for both GOP candidates. And Heck’s campaign told the Las Vegas Sun that Heck doesn’t even want Taitz’ help.
"We don't control who volunteers for our campaign," Heck campaign manager Grant Hewitt told the Sun.
But Sharron Angle has made no move to back away from Taitz, best known for a string of lawsuits claiming President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the United States, and thus ineligible to be president.
Is Sharron Angle a Birther? After twice dodging the question, Angle has yet to personally acknowledge that Barack Obama is a natural-born citizen and the legitimate President of the United States.
Taitz called Angle’s tanking campaign against Sen. Harry Reid the number one race in the country, and she issued a call to arms to her Birther troops to help fund Angle’s campaign instead of her Quixotic quest to unseat the president based on imaginary evidence that he wasn’t born in the U.S.
Taitz and her lawsuits are the object of much ridicule by, well, people who think. But she’s also a classic example of the kind of outside-the-mainstream figures who have endorsed Sharron Angle. See also Phyllis Schlafley. See also Joe Arpaio. See also Mark Williams.
“While Sen. Reid has been endorsed by mayors and other leaders from across the state, the VFW and other veterans groups, Nevada business leaders, nurses and hundreds of mainstream Republicans, Sharron Angle enjoys the endorsement of three of the most extreme and controversial figures in American politics today,” said Phoebe Sweet, spokeswoman for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “Other Republican candidates, including Joe Heck, run for the hills when an endorsement from Birther Queen Orly Taitz comes their way. With her campaign circling the drain, perhaps Angle thinks she needs all the friends she can get, even if those friends are widely acknowledged to hold extreme and dangerous positions like Taitz’.”
