Sharron Angle Stands with John Ensign, Big Wall Street Banks

Would She Repeal Common-Sense Wall Street Reform?

As Democrats, led by Sen. Reid, have finally secured passage of landmark Wall Street reform that will hold big banks accountable after weeks of Republican obstructionism, Sharron Angle says she would stand with John Ensign and the financial institutions whose risky practices created our an economic meltdown.

Angle has said that, like Ensign, she would have stood with the big banks. But would she stand with House Minority Leader John Boehner – who said today that he wants to repeal the reform bill, which guarantees oversight of the banks whose greed ravaged our financial system and created a spiral of job losses – despite bipartisan support for these common-sense reforms? Would she also stand with the Boehner on his comparison of using reform measures to turn around the economic crisis to using a nuclear weapon to kill an ant?

Despite saying during a campaign speech Wednesday that her top three campaign issues are, “the economy, the economy, the economy,” we know Angle believes “no action should be taken to fix Wall Street.” She even opposes accountability measures for banks that were bailed out by taxpayers.

“On this, Angle is quite literally alone, not just among Republicans running for Senate, but also among economists and finance experts — left, right and center,” wrote the Las Vegas Sun. “Although there’s disagreement about how to do it, policymakers in both parties agree Wall Street must be governed by rules that will enhance transparency and safety.”

Angle also said the financial crisis was caused by “too much regulation across the board.”

“Sharron Angle stands by John Ensign and the big Wall Street banks that caused this financial crisis, but she doesn't stand with Nevadans who are calling for common-sense financial reform with teeth,” said Phoebe Sweet, communications director for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “Nevadans deserve to know whether she would stand with national Republicans on repealing this legislation as well. They are tired of a Republican Party that sides with big business time and again, forgetting the ordinary Nevadans who are struggling to make ends meet every day.”
