Sun reports Angle may be illegally coordinating with another “independent” PAC influencing the race
Just days ago, Sharron Angle and her campaign were caught red-handed illegally coordinating with former GOP opponent Danny Tarkanian and his political committee.
Now, a shocking tape of a secret meeting between Angle and Tea Party candidate Scott Ashjian – who Angle tried to cut a deal with to exit the race in exchange for access to powerful DC Republicans she claimed to have "juice" with – reveals that Angle may have been illegally coordinating with Jim DeMint and his PAC as well, reports the Las Vegas Sun.
According to the Sun:
“In the recording of last week’s meeting between the two candidates, Angle brags that she has access to DeMint whenever she wants.
‘Whatever juice I have, you have as well,’ Angle says on the recording. ‘You want to see DeMint, I have juice with DeMint. I go to D.C. and say ‘I want to see Jim DeMint,’ he’s right there for me.’
But it’s been mostly overlooked that Angle shouldn’t really be talking to DeMint in the first place.
DeMint, in his effort to remake the Republican Party, has operated an independent expenditure committee that is backing Angle and a handful of other conservative candidates around the country.
Candidates are not allowed to coordinate with independent expenditure groups, who can solicit contributions outside the federal campaign contribution limits.
The Senate Conservative Fund has already spent more than $200,000 in Angle’s race.”
So, is Sharron Angle the candidate that just doesn’t learn?
After all, it’s clear she knows coordinating with an independent committee is illegal. She points out to Ashjian on the tape that she can’t coordinate with the Tea Party Express, “until after the election because they are operating an independent expenditure in her favor. But she doesn’t mention that she can’t coordinate with DeMint,” the Sun reports.
But knowing coordination is illegal hasn’t stopped Angle in the past.
She asked Danny Tarkanian – head of an “independent” group and the world’s worst surrogate – to host a fundraiser on her behalf with Christian pop star Pat Boone. And Tarkanian was so bold as to admit to the illegal coordination twice on local political pundit Jon Ralston’s Face to Face show and then again to conservative talker Heidi Harris.
Apparently the Angle campaign and her DC handlers are willing to do anything to salvage her tanking campaign.
“As if it’s not bad enough that Angle was caught red handed illegally coordinating with Danny Tarkanian, now she’s making national headlines again for bragging about her ‘juice’ with another independent group she shouldn’t even be talking to,” said Phoebe Sweet, communications director for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “Angle and her DC handlers will go to any length to hide her extreme agenda and stop her campaign’s complete free fall. That’s why they’re willing to once again resort to illegal coordination. But it’s just not working. The more Nevada voters learn about Sharron Angle, the more they agree she’s just too dangerous for this state.”
