LIE ALERT: Heller Lies in Weak Attempt to Defend Votes to End Medicare

Las Vegas, NV – In his latest weak attempt to defend his reckless vote to end Medicare a SECOND time, unelected Senator Dean Heller flat-out lied yesterday about how his plan affects seniors over the age of 55.
In a statement after the vote, a vote Heller said he was “proud” to take a second time, Heller said his plan to end Medicare would “ensure those who are 55 and older receive their Medicare benefits.”
This, of course, has no basis in reality. Heller’s plan would reopen the Medicare "donut hole" and result in 26,000 Nevada seniors paying an additional $15 million in out-of-pocket prescription drug costs next year alone.
“Despite Dean Heller’s lies and misinformation, his plan to end Medicare would absolutely affect Nevadans over the age of 55,” said Zach Hudson, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “His plan would nearly double the amount Nevada seniors pay for their prescription drugs and no amount of spin from Heller will change that.
“When it comes to Heller’s plan to end Medicare, the facts are clear. This plan is devastating for Nevadans over and under the age of 55. Heller is simply trying to distract Nevada seniors from his vote just yesterday to again end Medicare to pay for billions in tax giveaways to Big Oil.”
