John Ensign stands with “Party of No”

NSDP MountainNovember 21, 2009: Las Vegas, NV. – Today, Sen. John Ensign chose to stand with the “Party of No” rather than with Nevadans who have spoken loud and clear in favor of meaningful health insurance reform.

Today Ensign voted to prevent debate from beginning on health insurance reform in the Senate. While Democrats want to pass reform that brings quality affordable health insurance to millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of uninsured Nevadans, lowers the deficit and stops discrimination by insurance companies, Republicans refuse to even debate the matter. Meanwhile, they have offered no real alternatives and no real solutions.

“Today, Ensign chose to put health insurance companies ahead of the people of Nevada,” said Sam Lieberman, chairman of the Nevada State Democratic Party. “By voting to stop debate on health insurance reform legislation, Senator Ensign has proven that he is more interested in playing politics than in fixing our broken health insurance system.

“Nevadans need reform now.  Despite Sen. Ensign’s vote, Democrats look forward to having an honest debate about how best to put an end to decades of unfair insurance company practices and skyrocketing premiums.”
