Heller-Opposed, Job-Creating Tonopah Project Secures DOE Loan

Las Vegas, NV – Well, this is embarrassing. In spite of appointed Senator Dean Heller’s work to gut this job-creating program, Senator Harry Reid and Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today that the Crescent Dunes Solar Project in Tonopah will in fact receive the Department of Energy loan guarantee that will create at least 600 jobs in Nevada.
While this job-creating loan guarantee is great news for out-of-work Nevadans, they should take note that their newly appointed Senator Dean Heller tried to kill the program authorizing the loan earlier this year. Heller voted for HR 1 which would have gutted the program and cost Nevada thousands of jobs.
“Dean Heller needs to explain why he voted to kill this project that will bring hundreds of jobs to Nevada at a time when we desperately need them,” said Zach Hudson, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party.
“Dean Heller should absolutely be ashamed of himself for voting to destroy these jobs. Heller’s vote to gut this program makes perfectly clear to Nevadans that his priorities are ending Medicare and shilling for his Big Oil campaign donors, not creating jobs.”
