It's earned Sue Lowden the title of "Worst Person in the World" from MSNBC's Countdown. It's landed her on Jay Leno and Stephen Colbert's late-night comedy shows. It's even got Republican allies, conservative commentators and Washington's GOP political machine questioning whether she's "ready for prime time."
After winnowing down the contest submissions to our two favorites, the Nevada State Democratic Party is now asking people to choose their favorite Chickens for Checkups video, highlighting how ridiculous Lowden's Chickens for Checkups plan really is. To view the videos and vote, click here.
Thousands of people have viewed footage of Democrats delivering a goat and chickens to Sue Lowden’s campaign headquarters and of the GOP candidate again and again defending her suggestion that Nevadans should barter with their doctors for care. The videos sparked the firestorm of local and national coverage of the wheels coming off the embattled Lowden campaign.
“Sue Lowden is so out of touch with the lives of ordinary Nevadans, she has suggested – and then defended – the idea of trading livestock for healthcare,” said Phoebe Sweet, communications director for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “But while Sue Lowden thinks Chickens for Checkups – widely regarded both in Nevada and across the nation as a joke at best - Senator Harry Reid has delivered meaningful health insurance reform that is already taking effect.
“Nevada insurance companies are already ending the practice of dropping customers when they get sick, and allowing young adults to stay on their parents’ plans tax free until they are 26. And in the coming months, reform will bring tax cuts for small business, free preventive care for seniors, relief for seniors who fall in the Medicare doughnut hole, the end of discrimination because of preexisting conditions and many more benefits that will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of Nevadans.”
