Earth to Rep. Heck: Time To Get Your Priorities Straight

Las Vegas, NV — Today’s terrible announcement that Ford Motor Credit’s Henderson office is laying off all its employees is yet another clear sign that Congressman Joe Heck needs to get his priorities straight.

Hopefully now that 200 of his constituents have lost their jobs, Heck will finally realize he should have been focusing on the economy during his first weeks in Congress. As any Nevadan with a TV set can tell you, his focus has not exactly been on fighting to save jobs in his district.

Instead, Congressman Heck has been grandstanding to any media outlet that will listen about repealing health insurance reform, which will raise taxes on 30,000 Nevada small businesses and explode the deficit by $230 billion.

This is particularly brazen for someone like Heck, who refuses to give up the very congressional health insurance plan that the health insurance reform law will extend to every single Nevadan once it’s fully implemented. But what do you expect from someone who just five days before being sworn in as a member of Congress shuttered his consulting business, laying off five workers in the process.

What the heck have you been doing, Joe?

“I know that Joe Heck has only been in office a few weeks, but creating jobs shouldn’t be an afterthought for a member of Congress,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Chairman Sam Lieberman. “Instead of hypocritically trying to repeal health insurance reform which will raise taxes on Nevada small businesses and explode the deficit, he should have been working to strengthen his district’s economy.  Joe Heck needs to wake up and get his priorities straight.”
