Dean Heller to Vote Today on Ending Wasteful Tax Giveaways to Big Oil

Las Vegas, NV – The United States Senate will vote today on reducing the federal budget deficit by eliminating billions of dollars in taxpayer giveaways to Big Oil.  While Shelley Berkley is fighting to end these wasteful subsidies to pay down our debt, appointed Senator Dean Heller is trying to keep Big Oil’s outrageous tax giveaways that help fund his campaign account.

Heller has voted four times in the last five years to protect billions of tax dollars in subsidies to Big Oil, all the while trying to end Medicare as we know it.  Since he has been in Congress, Heller has received at least $80,000 from the oil and gas industry.  Clearly, he is delivering on Big Oil’s investment in his repeated votes to continue lining their pockets with tax dollars.

“Dean Heller has a chance today to stop shilling for the oil companies that help bankroll his campaign and actually do something about lowering the deficit,” said Zach Hudson, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party.  “Heller should stop using the deficit as a smokescreen to end Medicare as we know it and vote to end this blatant waste of tax dollars.  Nevadans cannot afford Heller’s reckless agenda that would protect Big Oil’s record profits while throwing Nevada’s seniors and middle class under the bus.”
