Bush “Architect” Karl Rove behind Pro-Angle Front Group, Smear Campaign to Influence Senate Race

Outside money pours into Nevada to try to save Sharron Angle, disastrous state GOP

It’s no secret that the Nevada Republican Party has been broke, disorganized and fractured by infighting for years. See devastating losses in 2008, a revolving door of state and county chairs and a lack of, until recently, even an office to call home.

If Nevada’s GOP candidates were going to get help, it wasn’t going to come from within the state or from the state party structure. They sorely needed a white knight.

Enter Karl Rove. “The Architect.” “The Brain” behind George W. Bush. The scorched-earth political hatchet-man many say really ran the Bush White House – and is responsible for the disastrous economic policies that took our nation’s economy in the wrong direction.

Rove front group American Crossroads is already pouring money into Nevada in an attempt to mislead voters in the U.S. Senate race. American Crossroads and sister group Crossroads GPS have already spent more here than in any other state, including $900,000 on television attack ads, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

The two groups have spent more in Nevada — including a $900,000 television buy late last month — than any of their other target states.

But the ads have already been roundly discredited as more lies from the man who brought us two disastrous Bush terms.

The Reno Gazette-Journal says the ads, which blame the state’s job losses on Sen. Harry Reid, are filled with partisan rhetoric, but short on facts. “You can’t pin [the] state’s job losses on Reid,” the RGJ says.

The non-partisan FactCheck.org says American Crossroads ads distort the truth about the economy and make “false” claims about the state’s unemployment rates.

And local political pundit Jon Ralston gave one Rove ad a C minus for accuracy. It’s creative, he admits, “but is it factual? That’s where the problems come in.” He gave another Crossroads ad a D, citing its use of outdated information designed to mislead voters.

Crossroads ads have been discredited around the country, and were even pulled from the airwaves in some states.

“While Sen. Reid is hosting a summit focused on creating clean energy jobs that will put Nevadans back to work, Sharron Angle and her out-of-state hatchet men are at work spreading lies about his record on the economy,” said Phoebe Sweet, communications director for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “But what do you expect from ‘brain’ behind the Bush White House that created the current economic crisis – a White House best known for its loose relationship with the truth – and the woman who calls Nevada’s abundant renewable energy resources ‘designer’ energy. While Sharron Angle and Karl Rove fight for no oversight of Big Oil and to ship our jobs out of state and overseas, Sen. Reid is fighting to create jobs here at home.”
