Angle Stands with National Republicans, Against Nevada’s “Spoiled” Unemployed

As the Senate prepares for a crucial vote to extend unemployment insurance for workers hit hardest by the recession and national Republicans once again oppose this important assistance, we know where Sharron Angle stands.

She thinks extending unemployment benefits would be “a terrible thing” [Heidi Harris in the Morning, 6/2/2010].

As usual, she’s siding with national Republicans and against Nevada workers who, through no fault of their own, have been disproportionately hit by the economic downturn.

Those workers are “spoiled” because they’re “making more on unemployment,” and don’t want to get “one of those… honest jobs,” according to Angle [Heidi Harris in the Morning, 6/10/10].

While Republicans like Sharron Angle have been using obstructionist tactics to hold help for out-of-work people hostage, more than 30,000 Nevadans have lost their unemployment benefits.

“Sharron Angle says help is on the way. But those words ring hollow when she says in the next breath that out-of-work people are ‘spoiled’ and takes the side of national Republicans who stand between 30,000 unemployed Nevadans and putting food on the table,”  said Phoebe Sweet, communications director for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “The best help Sharron Angle could do is to come out of her bunker to urge Senate Republicans to stop their heartless efforts to leave those hardest hit by this recession out in the cold. Luckily they have Sen. Harry Reid fighting Republican obstructionism in Washington to ensure that the kind of help they need – real help – is actually on the way.”
