Solar energy company to bring 278 jobs to NLV
North Las Vegas officials announced Monday that a new solar project will bring 278 jobs to the economically struggling city.
Amonix, a Califoria-based solar power company, announced in May that it would build a manufacturing plant in Southern Nevada. The company has chosen North Las Vegas as its location for the expansion, city officials said in a statement.
Mayor Shari Buck and Amonix CEO Brian Robertson planned to discuss the new jobs and the company’s expansion on Tuesday, but said today the project will include the addition of 278 jobs.
In May, Robertson had not yet released the future location of the facility, but said three places were being considered. Officials said once the site was chosen, construction would begin right away.
The company is getting a $5.9 million tax credit from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
In visits to Las Vegas, both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Obama have touted green projects as a way for Southern Nevada to diversify its economy and create jobs.
