Regarding Bob Jack’s Friday letter to the editor, headlined “Candidate’s detractors are missing the point”:
Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle may be a very personable individual and look people in the eye when meeting them, but does that qualify her to represent us in the U.S. Senate?
Her ideas on Social Security are so off that it is scary. Ms. Angle’s latest statement regarding private accounts for a portion of Social Security, if implemented, would devastate even more hard-working Americans’ safety nets. Many retired Americans are in the precarious positions they are in because companies have replaced traditional pensions with 401(k) plans.
People have either not participated, made uninformed investment decisions, have lost a good portion in the market downturns or have raided the plans early. The same thing would happen with private options on Social Security.
Let’s not even discuss her ideas on other subjects, which are equally scary.
