We’ve finally finished culling through the Presidential Caucus packets!

I had a feeling that we were going to find lots of eager Democrats willing to help out with the upcoming election, but even so, I’m still surprised at the sheer numbers of people asking to be involved.
Out of Clark County alone, we’ve pulled somewhere in the area of 5 to 6 thousand new volunteer forms. What that means is that we’ve got an instant army already built before the official election season has even started! I know that not everyone is convinced on the benefits of holding a caucus over a primary, but here’s one element of the caucus that has allowed the Democratic Party to get a solid leg up on the GOP.

Watch out Republicans, we’re going to knock you out of commission this year!

Looking for a friend who has volunteered in the past.
written by Michael G., February 12, 2008
This may seem unorthodox, but the one thing I can Count on my friend, Jim Frazee to do is be involved in the political process. I lost touch with him a little over a year ago. If anyone knows Jim, or bumps into him, please ask him to call his friend Michael, the conservative one in Las Vegas. I have a feeling I owe him about three bets worth of meals.
No Advantages in Destroying A Democracy!
written by Cecil Jones, February 12, 2008
I understand the obvious bias from one inside the Party mechanism, but there are no advantages in destroying the Democratic process. Sure we have an Army of supporters ready and willing to oust the Republicans, but why? They have violated the Constitution and plunged us into an endless war. If we destroy the values of and powers in a strong Democracy, are we any better? Are we fit to lead? The Caucus was not a Democratic process that anyone should be proud of. We can do better and that's why so many people are picking up pitchforks. Don't let our apathy let the Army turn against us. The independents are growing in numbers for a reason. See you at the Convention!
No Victim, No Crime?
written by Cecil Jones, February 13, 2008
If a large gang was ordered to report to a specific place and a specific time as a show of strength is Democracy served? If a group of people were paid to participate in a public process and told what to think and what to say is this Democracy? Obviously, it is not because the group leaders and the largest groups will determine the outcome. They determine who and what is "Viable." Isn't this the so called "Democratic Process" Nevada just used to select a President? What's so Democratic about it? The process is open to all who can find the time to attend. The process allows the healthy exchange of an idea. There are no victims and no crimes in the process. What's wrong with a Caucus if you are in the group or the leader? Democracy should be one person, one vote, in open forums, but in private. Viability isn't Democracy in Action! It's do as I say or else. What's fair or encouraging about that? We can... do better!
County Delegate / Platform Committee Member-Elections, Ethics and Government
written by John Geremia, February 16, 2008
I am disappointed in the way our first meeting was conducted and held for the Platform Committee. The wrong address was given to the newspapers, which obviously had an effect on participation. At the meeting we were divided into 8 groups. The Democratic leader had chosen Chairpersons and Sub-Chairpersons for some of the groups and this is an insult to my intelligence and strikes of anti-democratic behavior. So some 20 Democrats only attended ladies and gentleman the first meeting at Whitney Mesa road and half were insiders. I will continue to fight on because I wish to get our legislators to legislate laws that would eliminate Corporate and PAC donations.
Clark County Delegate

Mr. Chestnut,

Thankyou for sending me the rules. Now I understand why some of the Committee Chairs for the Platform Committees were selected prior to the committes members joining each group. As a Committee chair your name is announced at the second item of business. If you wish to go to the National Convention it would be a huge advantage to have your name announced. All of you are going to be getting to know me a whole lot better. This behavior will be addressed. You have my word on it.
Resolving the Mexican Standoff?
written by Cecil Jones, February 17, 2008
Democrats have a huge problem confronting us this year. How do we resolve a "Mexican Standoff?" No disrespect to our friends from the South, but how do you get two strong willed individuals to do what's best for the group? Obama and Hillary will not get enough delegates to win outright. Do you think either one will sacrifice their egos for the good of the Party? Out of control ego is what put us in this position. The solution is to select someone equally deserving willing to embrace everyone. I will pledge my support to Al Gore. I think he's the most qualified individual in our history to never serve as President and he's "Ready for Change Day 1!" In a Mexican Standoff, we wind up shooting ourselves by remaining full of pride. United we win everything! Obama would be a great VP and Hillary would protect Roe on the Supreme Court. Al Gore just makes sense if we are stuck and we refuse to budge.

disillusioned democrat
written by Michelle Seidman, February 24, 2008
I personally think that having a caucus is insane. I think it was a total debacle. If a candidate wins the state that should be the final voice. But apparently it is NOT. Since when does the loser of the state get more so called delegates than the winner? and then during the county and state conventions does the delegates change in the middle of the stream. Obviously when the original caucus was held the voting system did not even count. I should not even bothered to go to the caucus because my vote did not even count. If having a caucus is only to hand out delegates then I would rather have a primary and winner take all. I am not whining because Obama is now ahead in the delegate count but the fact that by having county and state conventions the delegate count changes. I was lead to believe that during the caucus that is when the delegates for Hillary and Obama were selected (volunteered) to go to the county convention. Then during the county convention the delegates for the county would go to the state to represent the counties wishes. NOT to 'vote' for whom they chose. Also what is this deal about Superdelegates? Still should come down to what the state voted. It seems that having Superdelegates that can sway the vote to whom they want is ludacris.

I also think that the Dems not allowing Florida to have delegates it stupid too. Just because Florida voted early and did not have the permission from the National Democratic Party? Jeez how juvenile! It's obvious that if they do that to Florida and (Michigan I think.)

Maybe it is time to eliminate all parties like Democrats and Republicans. Eliminate party agendas.

I also believe that the whole presidential voting system needs to be changed. Each party has different rules and each state has different rules.

I will NOT vote Democratic nor Republican. I will vote a different party although I'm fully aware that any of the other candidates of the other parties will never win the election at least the GOP nor the Dems will have 1 more vote
Insiders

Are insiders contrary to American ideals?
written by John Geremia

What is democratic about a group of insiders passing the torch from generation to generation? With 3000 delegates registering the night before Hunt set up a little over 2300 chairs. Just what does an insider have to do to lose his juice (job)? Looks like they have their Super Delegates waiting in reserve and now they intend to choose the State delegates. I don't see anything American about these insiders.Personally I'm beggining to lean toward Ralph Nader. If Hunt keeps his job we all will know juice trumps
Intelligence in this party.

Not Stuck on Stupid Anymore?
written by Cecil Jones, May 09, 2008
No disrespect to the Clintons, but we all must admit that Democrats have been "Stuck on Stupid." Democrats threw away election after election following the same sad advice offered by the last Democratic president who is the only one who dropped trow and got away with it. Again, no disrespect; but if Democrats had asked him to resign, we would have been in control of everything for the past decade. It was also Clinton who told Al Gore, "He had a job." It was Clinton who took over Kerry's campaign in 2004. Kerry was actually ahead and our loyalty to the Clinton team "Swiftboated" Kerry. With the Obama victory that is almost "inevitable", I'm excited about the possibilities. My fellow Democrats, we have been our worst enemy since impeachment. We didn't stand for anything and we fell for whatever Team Clinton told us to do. I'm excited because the Democratic Party looks like it is no longer a party of one, but can we win? No disrespect, but it's time to get past the Clintons. Okay, some but who cares?

Bush's disapproval rating worst of any president in 70 years

An article in the USA Today highlighted a recent USA Today/Gallup Poll that shows only 28% of Americans approving of the job George W. Bush is doing; 69% disapprove.

The author, Susan Page, also indicated that the disapproval rating is "the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll."
