The Porter Files: Jon Porter’s Anti-Middle Class Record
With Southern Nevada’s economy in a slump, Representative Jon Porter is
making it harder for middle class families to make ends meet. Porter
has voted – five times – against providing tax relief to Southern
Nevadans struggling with rising unemployment, falling housing prices
and a sluggish tourism sector. Last week, Porter voted against helping
nearly 60,000 taxpayers in Nevada’s third congressional district and
more than 25 million families nationwide.
“The Bush-Porter
economic slump has hurt Southern Nevada’s middle class families,” said
Kirsten Searer, deputy executive director of the Nevada Democratic
Party. “But instead of working to help families stretched thin by high
gas and food prices and rising health care and education costs,
Representative Jon Porter has repeatedly voted against timely tax
relief for the middle class. Porter should be ashamed that in
Washington, he has fallen so far out of touch with reality that he
doesn’t understand the economic pain families feel in Nevada.”
