With a slowing economy and an increasingly worrisome housing crisis, Nevadans were looking for answers tonight, but President Bush offered few solutions in his final State of the Union Address.

“Nevadans clearly want a change of leadership in the White House — that’s why three out of four Nevadans who caucused on January 19th caucused for a Democrat,” said Nevada Democratic Party Chair Jill Derby.  “Nevada has the worst foreclosure rate in the nation, we continue to deploy troops to a war with no end in sight and the economy is causing shortfalls at the local and state level that threaten our education and health care.  Unemployment and poverty has both increased in Nevada since 2000, and job growth recently has stalled.  Increased energy costs hurt our homeowners and our businesses.

“Right now, the President and Congress are working together on a bipartisan measure to give a shot in the arm to our economy," Derby said.  "We need more of that kind of bipartisan leadership.  It’s a clear reason why Nevadans should vote for a Democrat and a fresh start in November.”

Bush's disapproval rating worst of any president in 70 years

An article in the USA Today highlighted a recent USA Today/Gallup Poll that shows only 28% of Americans approving of the job George W. Bush is doing; 69% disapprove.

The author, Susan Page, also indicated that the disapproval rating is "the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll."
