October 31, 2007 - Today, while a Congressional hearing highlights the problems with the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump, it becomes increasingly clear to Nevadans that while Democratic presidential candidates would end an unsafe Yucca Mountain dump, Republican presidential candidates refuse to promise to protect Nevadans from harmful nuclear waste.

All of the Republican candidates have either embraced or are silent on the issue.

“It’s becoming increasingly clear:  Democrats in Congress are close to killing the Yucca Mountain project, and a Democratic president would finish the job. The Republican Party and its presidential candidates will not protect Nevada from becoming the nation’s nuclear waste dump,” said Kirsten Searer, Deputy Executive Director for the Nevada Democratic Party.

An article in the USA Today highlighted a recent USA Today/Gallup Poll that shows only 28% of Americans approving of the job George W. Bush is doing; 69% disapprove.

The author, Susan Page, also indicated that the disapproval rating is "the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll."
