Republican Congressman Jon Porter refused to take a stand and compel George Bush’s Chief of Staff, Joshua Bolten, and former White House counsel, Harriet Miers, to comply with subpoenas issued by Congress regarding the firing of seven U.S. Attorneys, including Nevada’s former U.S. attorney Daniel Bogden. Bogden was doing his job and fighting corruption, and then was fired without cause by the Department of Justice (DOJ). When given the opportunity to help determine why the DOJ was used for political purposes, Jon Porter voted “present” on the House floor.

“The Bush Administration has consistently blocked Congress’ attempts to get answers about the firing of seven prosecutors, including Nevada’s former U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden. When Jon Porter had the chance to get to the bottom of the issue, he took a pass.  Time and time again, he fails to stand up against George Bush. Nevadans deserve a Congressman who has the courage to make tough decisions, not the cowardice demonstrated by Jon Porter” said Travis Brock, executive director of the Nevada State Democratic Party.

Bush's disapproval rating worst of any president in 70 years

An article in the USA Today highlighted a recent USA Today/Gallup Poll that shows only 28% of Americans approving of the job George W. Bush is doing; 69% disapprove.

The author, Susan Page, also indicated that the disapproval rating is "the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll."
