Fundraising numbers indicate Congressional District 3 wants a change
“Disappointing” — that’s how the Las Vegas Review Journal characterizes
Jon Porter’s fundraising numbers in the second quarter:

Numbers reported today by three-term incumbent Porter indicate that
residents of Congressional District 3 are ready for a change —
challenger Dina Titus raised $150,000 more than Porter in the second
quarter.
“In just two months, Dina Titus raised more than $575,000 from people
who want a change,” said Kirsten Searer, Deputy Executive Director of
the Nevada Democratic Party. “For six years, Jon Porter has voted with
President Bush and the special interests, not his constituents. Dina is
receiving support because she will work to end the Bush-Porter war in
Iraq, reduce taxes for middle class families and work to lower gas
prices.”
Just last week, Porter boasted to the Review-Journal that “his
fundraising would top any previous election cycle, both in total to
date and for the quarter.” [http://www.lvrj.com/news/24307409.html].
But FEC reports indicate that Porter’s top fundraising quarter, a
combination of the pre-primary and October quarterly reports of 2004,
totaled about $579,000 — about $160,000 more than he posted in this
July quarter.
The disappointing numbers aren’t the only bad news for Porter —
Democratic registration in the district has surged, transitioning from
a district evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats to one with
a 25,000-voter Democratic advantage.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also announced last
week it had reserved almost $1 million in television advertising time
in Congressional District 3.
