More than 6,300 Clark County delegates participated in a delegate selection event today to elect delegates to the Democratic state convention to be held May 17-18 in Reno.

Sen. Hillary Clinton received 3,442 votes (54 percent) from Clark County delegates and Sen. Barack Obama received 2,900 votes (46 percent) from Clark County delegates.  Today’s results mean that 1,330 delegates were apportioned to the state convention for Sen. Clinton and 1,133 state delegates were apportioned to Sen. Obama.

Clark County Chair John Hunt said the event ran very well, and he received positive feedback from delegates who participated.

“Democrats who support both of our presidential candidates united to plan this event because we all agree we need to put a Democrat in the White House this year,” Hunt said.  “I have never seen Democrats so ready to work for a new direction to bring our troops home, to rebuild our economy and to protect the future of our children’s education.”

Democratic Party Chair Sam Lieberman said he was impressed that both of the presidential campaigns worked together for a successful event.

“I’d like to thank all of the participants and partners in today’s event — it was a positive gathering that united Democrats as we prepare for the coming election year,” Lieberman said.

Bush's disapproval rating worst of any president in 70 years

An article in the USA Today highlighted a recent USA Today/Gallup Poll that shows only 28% of Americans approving of the job George W. Bush is doing; 69% disapprove.

The author, Susan Page, also indicated that the disapproval rating is "the highest disapproval rating of any president in the 70-year history of the Gallup Poll."
