Former Clark County Democratic Party Chairman Charlie Waterman Dies
From Nevada Democratic Party Chair Sam Lieberman:
“With great sadness I must inform you of the passing of former Clark County Chair Charlie Waterman.
“Our condolences to Helen and the family. Charlie gave many years of
dedicated service to the Democratic Party and touched the lives of
multiple generations of Democratic activists. He will be missed.”
Harriet Trudell, Nevada State Democratic Party Political Director and a longtime friend of Charlie’s, remembers him this way:
“How do you translate Charlie Waterman to something as mundane as
paper? He was fearless, especially where his sense of social justice
was concerned, and when his beloved Democratic Party was involved. He
took on anyone or anything who he through dealt unfairly with the
issues and people he cared about. He kept a war going in Clark County
politics most of the time and it often spilled over into a statewide
controversy, but win or lose it was always deadly serious for him.
“He will always be remembered and truly missed, and it will be
difficult to ever find a replacement as caring of Democratic values and
the people they protect.
“He served on and off as County Chair for more than 40 years, he had a
rapier wit, which he had no compunction in using on whoever crossed his
path. Yet he helped many people in dire need throughout all his years
of activity for the party.
“His humor and practical jokes were well known and much appreciated by
those of us who were fortunate to move in his large circle of friends.”
Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV) released the following statement in memory of the late Charlie Waterman:
"Charlie taught all of us an important lesson about politics and
following your heart: always do what you think is right and do it for
all the right reasons. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Waterman
family and I am saddened by the loss of a true friend and a man of
principle whose contributions to our community can be counted in so
many ways,” said Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV). "Dear friend,
rest in peace."
Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement upon learning of the passing of Charlie Waterman:
“I was saddened to learn of the passing of Charlie Waterman. In
addition to a long, distinguished career as an attorney, Charlie
dedicated his life to building the foundation of the Clark County
Democratic Party. As a long-time friend, my thoughts go out to his
friends and family during this difficult time.”
